Application forms for scholarships administered by the Margery L Orr Scholarship Fund may be obtained from the Counselor, Lead-Deadwood High School (LDHS).  Only LDHS students expected to graduate in the current school year may apply and scholarships may only be used at an accredited four-year college or university.  A single application is used for all three scholarships administered by the Margery L. Orr Scholarship Fund.  Applications are normally submitted in the winter of the student’s senior year, subject to a deadline (usually in February or March) set by the Counselor’s office.  Awards are announced at commencement ceremonies in May.

Applicants must be in the top 20% of their graduating class and must submit a copy of their family’s Federal income tax for the previous year, as a measure of family financial ability.  The application should also include a statement of the student’s extracurricular and community activities during high school and a brief description of the student’s college plans, including the school they plan to attend, the career field they would like to enter, and how they plan to finance their education.  If applicable, a brief statement describing any unusual financial circumstances that will make it difficult for the student to attend college may be included.
